Bertazzoni Range Repair
Bertazzoni gas, dual fuel and induction ranges from the Professional, Master and Heritage series, rangetops and wall ovens, and Bertazzoni's built-in refrigerators. An Italian range works a little differently from an American one, so we tell you what is normal before we price a repair.

In short: a Bertazzoni range that needs service usually has a burner that lights and then goes out when you let go of the knob, burners that keep clicking, an oven that will not light or hold its temperature, and worn door hinges or a noisy cooling fan. On Bertazzoni refrigerators it is a section that warms up, a message on the display or an ice maker that stops. We are an independent service, not affiliated with Bertazzoni.
The Bertazzoni lines we service
Bertazzoni is a family company from Guastalla, in northern Italy, that has made cooking appliances since 1882. Its ranges follow European practice, and that shows in the details a technician works with: a flame-failure device on the burners, ignition built into the knobs, and parts that come from Italy through US distributors. What we see in Orange County kitchens:
- Ranges. Professional, Master and Heritage series, from 24 to 48 inches, all-gas, dual fuel (gas burners over an electric oven), induction and electric. The widest models have two ovens.
- Rangetops and cooktops. Gas and induction, with the same burners and controls as the ranges.
- Wall ovens. Electric convection ovens, single and double.
- Refrigeration. Built-in and panel-ready refrigerators with a lower drawer compartment that can run as a freezer, a refrigerator or a wine cooler, and wine versions of the same cabinet.
Finding the model and serial number
On a range the rating plate is usually behind the lower drawer or on the frame around the oven door, depending on the model. On the built-in refrigerators it is on the outside of the cabinet at the bottom left, seen when you open the lower drawer. A phone photo of it lets us check parts first.
What fails on a Bertazzoni range, and why
What fails most often on these ranges:
Burner lights, then goes out when you release the knob
What it usually is: each burner has a flame-failure device, a small probe that sits in the flame. While it is hot it holds the gas valve open; if the flame goes out, it cools and the valve closes. That is why you press and hold the knob for several seconds after the flame appears. When a burner still dies on release, the probe tip is dirty or bent out of the flame, the cap is not seated so the flame misses it, or the probe or the valve's holding magnet has worn out.
What you can check: hold the knob in a little longer, ten seconds or so. Make sure the cap and the flame ring sit flat and the area around the probe is dry and clean.
What we do: clean and set the probe, test its output, and replace the probe or the valve, whichever has failed. See professional range repair.
Clicking that will not stop, or no spark
What it usually is: pushing a knob closes a switch that fires the spark generator, and on most models every electrode sparks at once, which is normal. Constant clicking with the knobs off is usually water from a spill or a wet cleaning in a knob switch or around an electrode. A cracked ceramic electrode, a worn switch or a tired spark generator gives a weak spark or none.
What you can check: let everything dry, keep cleaning sprays away from the knobs, and if it clicks with every knob off, unplug the range or switch off its breaker while the switch dries.
What we do: find which switch or electrode is shorting and replace it, then test the generator. See cooktop repair.
Uneven, lifting or yellow flames
What it usually is: the dual-ring power burner has inner and outer crowns that must go back in the right order after cleaning, or the flame lifts and burns unevenly. Yellow, sooty flames come from blocked ports, a cap out of place, or the wrong orifices after a change between natural gas and propane.
What you can check: reassemble the burner as the use and care guide shows and clear the ports with a dry soft brush.
What we do: check the orifices and the air setting for your gas, and replace burner parts that have warped.
Gas oven will not light or goes out
What it usually is: on many all-gas models the oven burner has its own flame-failure device, so the oven knob is held in for several seconds after the burner lights. If it lights and dies, the probe, the igniter or electrode, or the oven valve is usually at fault.
What you can check: follow the lighting steps in the use and care guide exactly. If you smell gas, turn the oven knob off, leave the house and call the gas company or 911 from outside.
What we do: test the igniter or electrode, the oven's flame-failure probe and the oven valve, with the gas closed at the range before anything is opened.
Electric oven not heating, or temperature off
What it usually is: dual fuel and electric ovens use a lower bake element, an upper broil element and a ring element around the convection fan. An open element, a worn selector switch, a thermostat that drifts on knob-controlled models, or a sensor or control on electronic models gives a dead function or an oven that runs hot or cold.
What you can check: on knob-controlled models the oven heats only with both the function knob and the temperature knob set, so check both first. Then note which functions still heat.
What we do: measure each element and test the switch, the thermostat or sensor, and the control. See wall oven repair.
Cooling fan, door hinges and gaskets
What it usually is: a cooling fan keeps the knobs and front of the range cool and runs on after cooking. When it stops, the front runs hot and a safety cutout can shut the oven down. Heavy oven doors wear their hinges until the door no longer closes square, and oven heat hardens the gasket.
What you can check: listen for the fan after cooking, and look for a gap along the top of the closed oven door.
What we do: replace the fan or cutout, and the hinges as a pair, usually with the gasket.
Bertazzoni built-in refrigerators
Bertazzoni's built-in refrigerators share their electronics and menus with Fhiaba, an Italian maker of built-in refrigeration. They have two completely separate refrigeration circuits, each with its own compressor (variable-speed, inverter-driven on many models): one for the refrigerator (or wine) section and one for the lower drawer compartment. The refrigerator side defrosts every time its compressor stops, without a heater; the lower compartment has a defrost heater. The front edge of the cabinet carries a warm refrigerant loop that keeps condensation off, so a warm frame is normal.
Runs constantly or a section too warm
What it usually is: a dusty condenser, a condenser fan, a grille or rear air path that the cabinetry blocks, or a door that does not seal. Next come an air fan or a temperature probe, then a refrigerant solenoid valve, and least often a leak, the compressor or its inverter.
What you can check: on models with the compressors at the bottom, the condenser sits behind the bottom grille, which is held by magnets and lifts off. With the power off, brush and vacuum the coil. Do not let a base panel cover that grille. Models with the compressors at the top are laid out differently; ask us first.
What we do: confirm the air path matches the installation guide, test the fans, probes and valve, and confirm any sealed-system fault with readings before we quote it. See built-in refrigerator repair and sealed-system repair.
Ice maker and water
What it usually is: no water reaching the ice maker, a filter that needs changing, the fill valve, or the ice maker's own probe. After several failed fills the display shows a water circuit message.
What you can check: the water shutoff, and the filter in the ceiling of the refrigerator, which comes out with a quarter turn.
What we do: test flow, the valve and the ice maker. See ice maker repair.
Display messages and codes on these refrigerators:
| Code or display | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Fridge too warm, Freezer too warm | A section has risen above its set range. | Check doors, the drawer and the grille. If it does not recover in a few hours, call. |
| Power failure | The power was off for a long time; pressing Alarm shows the warmest freezer temperature reached. | Check the food against that temperature. |
| Fridge door open, Freezer door open | A door or the drawer has been open for three minutes. | Close it. If it shows with the door shut, the switch or the alignment needs a look. |
| 001, 002 | The refrigerator side (001) or the drawer compartment (002) has not cooled its evaporator enough within two days. | Clean the condenser and call. Often a fan or air path, sometimes the sealed system. |
| 003 | The condenser heats up too fast after the compressors start. | Clean the coil and clear the grille; if it returns, the condenser fan is the usual cause. |
| 004, 005 | The drawer compartment's defrost does not finish (004), or its fan is not moving air (005). | Call. Frost on the drawer's back wall often goes with these. |
| 006 | The refrigerator evaporator does not reach temperature with the compressor and its solenoid valve on. | Call; the valve and the refrigerant charge need testing. |
| 008 | The ice maker did not fill. | Check the water shutoff and the filter. |
| 015, 016, 019, 020, 023, 024 | A temperature probe reads out of range: 015 the ice maker probe (a room probe on wine models), 016 the condenser probe on wine models, 019 and 020 the refrigerator air and evaporator probes, 023 and 024 those of the drawer compartment. | Call; a probe is a moderate repair. |
| 018 | The refrigerator fan is not moving air. | Call. |
| 021, 022 | A door switch has read open for an hour while the temperature stayed steady. | Check that nothing holds the door or drawer open; then the switch. |
Meanings vary by model and production year. Pressing Alarm silences the sound but the message stays until the settings are reset, so note the code before anything is cleared. Codes for other brands are on error codes.
How we work on Bertazzoni in a finished kitchen
- Ranges from the top first. Burners, valves, flame-failure probes, switches and the spark generator are reached from the cooktop. Parts at the back of the oven bring the range forward on padding, and we tell you first.
- Gas work with the supply closed. Valves and flame-failure probes are changed with the gas closed at the range, then every joint is soap-tested.
- Refrigerators in place. On bottom-compressor built-ins the compressors, condenser, fan and valves sit on a base frame behind the grille (on models with the compressors at the top, the water valves sit behind the kick-plate under the drawer), and the custom panels adjust from inside the door under the gasket, so we rarely need to disturb the cabinetry.
- Lead times up front. Common parts are on the van. Bertazzoni parts come through US distributors, usually in a few business days, and we say the lead time before you decide.

Bertazzoni repair: questions
Why does my Bertazzoni burner go out when I let go of the knob?
The flame-failure device needs a few seconds in the flame before it holds the gas valve open, so keep the knob pressed for about ten seconds. If it still goes out, the probe is dirty, out of position or worn, which is a small repair.
Why do all the burners click when I light one?
On most Bertazzoni ranges one spark generator serves every burner, so all the electrodes spark together while a knob is pressed. That is normal. Clicking with every knob off is not, and it usually means moisture in a switch.
Are Bertazzoni parts hard to get?
They come through US distributors, usually in a few business days. We confirm the part and the lead time from the model and serial number before you decide.
Do you repair Bertazzoni refrigerators?
Yes, the built-in and panel-ready models and their wine versions: fans, probes, the condenser and ice maker, defrost parts, and in-house sealed-system work on either of their two circuits.
Is it normal for my Bertazzoni refrigerator to gurgle and feel warm at the edges?
Yes. Refrigerant flowing and valves closing make some gurgling and clicking, and a warm loop in the cabinet frame keeps condensation off the door edges. A new rattle or a frame that is hot rather than warm is worth a call.
My Bertazzoni flames turned yellow after a propane conversion. Why?
A change between natural gas and propane needs the right orifice on every burner and the air setting adjusted, and on gas ovens the oven burner too. Yellow, lifting or very small flames afterward usually mean one was missed or the wrong size went in; we check each burner against your gas.
How much does a Bertazzoni repair cost?
Flame-failure probes, spark switches and hinges are small repairs; a gas valve, a control or sealed-system work on a refrigerator is the larger one. The range and refrigeration tables above give typical figures for each.
