In short: a Miele is built to be repaired: a stainless tub, with pumps, valves, heater and boards that come out as separate parts. The parts that wear out most are drain and supply parts, the pump with its built-in heater, door springs and latches, and controls. On the oldest machines we first check that the part is still made. We are an independent service, not affiliated with Miele.
Which Miele dishwasher you have
The model number starts with G and sits on the data tag on the side edge of the door, seen with the door open. The generation decides the parts and controls; the error codes page matches model numbers to code lists. What changes inside:
- G 600 and G 800. The older machines, with a Novotronic dial, Touchtronic buttons or Incognito controls on the top of the door. Water is heated either by an element just above the tub floor or by a flow-through heater on the side of the tub that feeds the middle spray arm. The two WaterProof valves sit in a box at the end of the inlet hose.
- G 1000 and G 2000. The mid-2000s Advanta, Inspira, Optima, Excella and La Perla lines. The heater moved into the circulation pump housing as a ring, and a combined water inlet unit carries the softener and the flow meter.
- Futura G 4000 and G 5000. Classic, Crystal, Dimension and Diamond, with Touchtronic, Navitronic or Incognito controls. Depending on the model, the circulation pump is a plain one, one with a diverter that feeds the spray arms in turn, or a variable-speed one. On the top Futura models (Dimension Plus and Diamond) a motorized latch opens the door about four inches at the end of the program to help drying.
- Generation 6000. The 18-inch G 47x0 and the 24-inch G 49xx to G 69xx. Variable-speed pump with the heater built in and, depending on the model, AutoOpen drying that opens the door about three inches at the end, Knock2Open, a heat exchanger or Wi-Fi.
- G 7000. The current machines. We service them too, and look up their codes and parts by the exact model number.
Each generation came in three builds. Pre-finished models arrive with their own door front and control panel. Integrated models show the controls on the front with a custom panel below. Fully integrated models, often with Vi in the name, hide the controls on the top edge of the door behind a full custom panel or Miele's stainless one.
How it is built, and why that matters for repairs
- WaterProof system. The inlet hose has an outer sleeve and two valves in series, and the base has a drip pan with a float. A leak anywhere lifts the float, the water shuts off and the drain pump runs until the pan is dry. So a hidden leak shows up as a pump that will not stop.
- Heater inside the pump. From the G 1000 on, the heater is part of the circulation pump housing, so the water is heated only while it moves. A failed heater usually means a new pump and heater assembly, not a separate element.
- Pressure sensing. A pressure switch on the pump checks that enough water is circulating before heating and that the sump is empty after a drain. Foam fools it, so detergent problems look like part failures.
- Softener with salt. Orange County water is hard enough that the built-in softener needs dishwasher salt and the right hardness setting. Without it, scale builds on the heater and film on glasses.
- Doors balanced by springs. The door is held by a pair of springs chosen for the weight of the panel on it. Both are replaced together and sized for the panel.
What fails, roughly in order
Drain: filters, check valve, drain pump
Standing water or a drain fault such as F11 is usually the filters, a jam at the pump or check valve, or the house drain; the checks and causes are on Miele dishwasher not draining.
Water supply and the WaterProof hose
What it usually is: a screen clogged at the hose fitting, a weak inlet valve, a flow meter that miscounts, or a leak into the base that trips the float. The machine will not fill, fills slowly, or stops with the drain pump running.
What you can check: the shutoff valve under the sink is fully open. Close it when you leave the house for weeks.
What we do: measure the flow, find the leak with the covers off, and replace the valve or the WaterProof hose as a unit, with the correct flow restrictor for the model.
No heat: the pump heater, relay or sensor
What it usually is: cold, wet dishes and a heating fault. On G 1000 and later it is the ring heater in the pump housing, the heater relay or the temperature sensor; on a G 600 or G 800, the flow-through heater or the tub element and its limiters.
What you can check: the detergent dose. Heavy foam reads as a heating or pressure fault.
What we do: test the heater, relay and sensor under load before ordering, because the pump and heater assembly is one of the larger repairs.
Circulation pump and diverter
What it usually is: a pump jammed by debris, a diverter stuck so one rack stops getting clean, or worn pump electronics on variable-speed models. A machine that sat unused for months, common in second homes, can also have a pump seal that has stuck.
What you can check: poor cleaning on only the top or only the bottom rack is a clue worth telling us.
What we do: free a stuck seal or clear the jam before deciding the pump needs replacing.
Door springs, hinges and latch
What it usually is: springs that no longer match the panel, often after new cabinet doors, so the door drops open hard or creeps shut. Also worn hinges, a motorized latch that fails on Futura and Generation 6000, or a door seal out of its groove that stops the program with no message.
What you can check: the seal sits evenly in its groove, and nothing hangs over the door.
What we do: fit the matched spring pair for the panel weight, replace hinges or the latch, and adjust the strike so the door closes cleanly.
Drying and condensation
What it usually is: rinse aid not dispensing, a drying fan that stopped or rattles, or steam that wets the cabinets beside the machine.
What you can check: the rinse aid level, and whether all-in-one tablets match the detergent setting.
What we do: test the dispenser and fan, and seal the condenser area where that is the cause.
Controls and displays
What it usually is: a power board relay, the link between the display and the power board, or a display that stays dark. A drain pump pulsing on and off by itself is a control fault too.
What you can check: the breaker.
What we do: read the fault memory, test the boards and their cable, and replace and program the part that failed.
How we work on a built-in Miele
Filters, spray arms, seals and most door parts are reached from the front. The drain pump, sump, float and most leaks are reached from underneath, so a built-in slides out of its opening, with the floor covered, the panel protected and the water off. Every connection is leak-tested before it goes back. When we refit hoses and seals we use no silicone grease, which Miele advises against in its dishwashers.
Repair or replace
For a Generation 6000 or a Futura, repair is usually the better choice: parts are available, and even a pump and heater assembly costs well under a new built-in plus the panel work. A G 1000 or G 2000 is usually worth repairing unless the control board has failed and is no longer made. On a G 600 or G 800, mechanical parts are often still obtainable but some electronics are not, so we check the exact part by model before you decide.

Miele dishwasher repair: questions
How do I know which generation my Miele dishwasher is?
Read the model number on the side edge of the door. G 6xx and G 8xx are the older line, G 1xxx and G 2xxx the mid-2000s machines, G 4xxx to G 6xxx are Futura or Generation 6000 depending on the full number, and G 7xxx is current. A photo of the tag settles it.
Why does my Miele dishwasher door drop open or slam shut?
The springs no longer match the weight of the panel, usually after a cabinet door was replaced or a spring wore out. They are replaced as a matched pair chosen for the panel.
Why is a heating repair on a newer Miele more than I expected?
Because the heater on these machines is part of the pump, the repair is a pump assembly rather than a small element. A relay or sensor fault, which we rule out first, costs less.
Our Miele will not run after months in a closed-up house. Why?
After a long idle spell, the circulation pump seal can stick, and inlet screens can clog. We free the seal before anything is replaced. Close the water valve when you leave, and run a short program when you return.
Why are the cabinets next to my Miele getting wet?
Steam is escaping during drying. On some models air leaks in around the condenser and that area is sealed; on others the fan or door seal is the cause.
Can a G 600 or G 800 still be repaired?
Often, yes. Many mechanical parts are still available, but some electronics are not, so we check the exact part by model number before you decide.
