Miele Washer and Dryer Repair
Miele W1 washers and T1 dryers, plus the earlier 24-inch vented and condenser dryers and the 27-inch electric and gas dryers still running in Orange County homes. On dryers most calls trace back to airflow; on washers, to the drain, the door lock, the water supply or the drum bearings.
$79 service call, applied to the repair. Monday to Saturday, 8 AM to 7 PM.

In short: a Miele dryer watches its own airflow, so clogged or wet filters, a dirty heat exchanger or a long vent cause more calls than any part. Real failures are the heater or gas burner, the moisture sensing, belts and rollers, and condenser pumps. Washers mostly come down to the drain, the door lock, the water inlet and bearings. We are an independent service, not affiliated with Miele.
Which Miele laundry do you have
The model and serial plate is usually on the rim of the door opening or on the back panel; a photo of it helps.
- W1 washers and T1 dryers. Miele's current 24-inch front-loaders and their matching dryers. Many W1 washers dose detergent automatically from cartridges, and many T1 dryers are heat-pump models that need no vent; the model number tells us which.
- T 8000 dryers. An earlier 24-inch generation with LED panels: T 8002, T 8003 and T 8005 are vented, and T 8012C, T 8013C and T 8019CI are condenser dryers that collect their water.
- T 9800 and T 982x dryers. Larger 27-inch dryers for about 17 pounds of laundry: the T 9800 is electric on a 240-volt circuit, and the T 982x burns natural gas, or propane after conversion. The door is hinged on the left and cannot be swapped.
- Earlier washers. The front-loaders sold alongside those dryers.
How a Miele dryer decides it is done
Most programs do not run on a timer. Insulated ribs inside the drum measure how well the damp laundry conducts electricity, and the program ends when the load reaches the dryness you chose. Very soft water conducts less, and some models have a setting to correct for it.
Two temperature sensors watch the air. If lint blocks the air path, the temperature near the heater climbs quickly and the dryer asks you to clean the air paths; if it climbs far enough, it stops the cycle. As a backstop, a sensing program is cut off after about three hours.
One motor turns the drum and the fan together. If the motor stops while the heater is on, the dryer shuts the heat off to protect itself.
What the lights mean on older Miele dryers
On LED-panel dryers such as the T 8000 and T 9800, faults show as lights rather than text. Meanings vary by model and era. W1 and T1 machines report faults on their display, as the owner's manual describes.
| What you see | What it usually means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Clean air paths, or Check filter/vent, lit at the end | Airflow was restricted during the cycle | Clean and fully dry the lint filters; on condenser models also the second filter and heat exchanger; check the vent. |
| Check filter/vent flashing fast, cycle stopped | Airflow so poor the dryer shut down (T 9800) | Clean everything above. If it repeats, call. |
| Empty tank | Condensate container full, or the pump cannot drain it | Empty it; check a plumbed drain hose for kinks. If it repeats, call. |
| End lights soon after starting | The drum is nearly empty or the load is already dry | Add laundry or use a timed program. |
| Locked flashing | The electronic lock is on | Switch it off as the owner's manual shows. |
| All program lights flashing, nothing starts | Demo mode | Call, or see the manual. |
| Rotary iron or Hand iron flashing | A temperature sensor fault, or the heater is not heating; only cold air works | Call. |
What fails on Miele dryers, most common first
Restricted airflow
What it usually is: a lint filter packed with fluff, or one rinsed under the tap and put back wet; a thin film of water blocks air as well as lint does. On condenser dryers, a second filter and the heat exchanger clog too; on vented dryers, a long, crushed or lint-filled duct. The heater overheats and its safety limiter trips, and the dryer runs long or stops.
What you can check: clean the filters every load and let washed ones dry completely. Make sure the outside vent flap opens.
What we do: clean the air path inside the cabinet, check the vent run, and find why a limiter tripped before resetting or replacing it.
Runs for hours, or clothes still damp
What it usually is: laundry that left the washer too wet, an overloaded drum, a metal zipper that fools the moisture sensing, poor airflow, or no heat from a failed heater or a tripped overheat cutout. A fault in the moisture sensing inside the drum can also keep the dryer running after the laundry is dry.
What you can check: a faster spin on the washer, a smaller load, the filters.
What we do: read the fault memory, test the heater circuit and the moisture sensing, and repair what failed.
Gas dryer will not heat (T 982x)
What it usually is: no ignition after repeated tries, from a closed supply, low gas pressure, a blocked exhaust, a dirty burner jet or a weak igniter. A limiter at the burner trips on overheating or flashback.
What you can check: that the dryer is on and the exhaust is clear. Do not touch the gas line or valve.
What we do: test the igniter, flame sensor and gas valves, find why any limiter tripped, and leak-test every gas fitting we open.
Noise, squeal or a drum that drags
What it usually is: the felt seals at the front of the drum out of place, worn drum rollers, or a worn or slipping belt. On the T 9800, a buzz from the base is a known vibration with a small fix inside the cabinet.
What we do: reseat or replace seals, rollers and belts, and stop the vibration when the base buzzes.
Condenser dryer water problems
What it usually is: a failed condensate pump or its sensor, a leak near the pump, or a drain hose that shares a trap with a washer or sink, so water flows back into the dryer.
What we do: test the pump, fix the leak, and add a valve on the drain hose when water is flowing back.
What fails on Miele washers
Will not drain or spin
What it usually is: the drain filter behind the flap at the bottom front blocked by coins, hair ties or bra wires, a kinked drain hose, or a failed drain pump.
What you can check: switch the washer off, let hot water cool, lay down towels and a shallow pan, and clean the filter as the manual shows.
What we do: clear the line and test the pump.
Door will not lock, or will not open
What it usually is: the door lock or its switch, or water still in the drum, which keeps the door locked by design.
What we do: drain the drum, test the lock and replace it. Never force the door.
Will not fill, or a water-protection message
What it usually is: a closed tap, clogged screens at the hose connection, a failed inlet valve, or, on models with Miele's water protection, a leak sensed in the base.
What we do: find the leak first, then replace the hose, valve or seal at fault.
Rumbling, banging or walking in spin
What it usually is: worn drum bearings, tired shock absorbers or springs, a washer out of level, or transit bars still fitted on a new install.
What we do: diagnose first and tell you plainly whether a bearing job is worth it.
No hot wash, dosing faults and controls
What it usually is: a heater element or its temperature sensor, a clogged dosing line on automatic-dosing models, or a control board.
What we do: test each part, and confirm the part number for your model before ordering.
Care that prevents the common laundry calls
- Clean the dryer lint filters every load, and dry washed filters fully before refitting.
- On condenser dryers, clean the second filter and the heat exchanger as the manual describes. On heat-pump dryers, clean the filter at the bottom front and leave the heat exchanger behind it to a technician.
- Keep a vent duct short and smooth.
- Clean the washer's drain filter and detergent drawer every few months, and leave the door ajar between loads.
Stay safe. Lint that builds up inside a dryer cabinet can catch fire. Very long cycles, lint inside the cabinet or water under the control panel mean the air seals need attention: stop using the dryer and call. If you smell gas near a gas dryer, leave the house and call the gas company or 911 from outside.
Repair or replace, and what it costs
Filters, belts, rollers, seals, pumps, door locks, valves and heaters are usually worth repairing on any Miele. A board or a bearing job is usually worth it on a W1 or T1 and a closer call on an older model. The service call is $79, covers the trip and diagnosis, and is applied to the repair when you approve the written price. Belts, rollers and pumps usually arrive in a few business days; for older T 8000 and T 9800 dryers we confirm the part exists before you approve. How we price is on our pricing page.

Miele washers and dryers: questions
Why does my Miele dryer say to clean the air paths when the filter is clean?
A filter rinsed and refitted wet blocks air almost as badly as lint. On condenser models the second filter or the heat exchanger may be clogged, on heat-pump models the filter at the bottom front, and on vented models the duct.
Why does my Miele dryer stop after a few minutes with the End light on?
The moisture sensing found almost nothing to dry. Use a timed program for a few items; if it happens with a wet load, the sensor needs checking.
My Miele dryer runs for hours and the clothes are still damp. Why?
Usually the load left the washer too wet, the drum is overloaded, the airflow is restricted or the heater is not heating. After about three hours the dryer stops and stores a fault.
My Miele washer will not drain. What can I check?
Turn it off, let the water cool, and clean the drain filter behind the flap at the bottom front, with towels down. If it still will not drain, the pump or hose needs a technician.
Do you repair older Miele laundry, not just W1 and T1?
Yes, including the T 8000 and the 27-inch T 9800 and T 982x dryers. On older models we check part availability before you commit.
Is a bearing replacement on a Miele washer worth it?
On many Miele washers the bearings can be replaced. On a W1 it is usually worth it; on an older model we check parts and tell you plainly before you decide.
